New NYC cityscape painting: "Along the Bowery, East Village"
This New York cityscape is based on a photo I took last year while wandering through the East Village, shooting street scenes and architecture along the Bowery before heading over to SoHo for a slice of thin crust and a beer at Spring Street Lounge. That stretch of downtown Manhattan has always captivated me — the original buildings and rooftop water tanks still standing, the layers of history, the mix of cultures, and the artists and musicians who have long called it home. What makes it endlessly interesting, though, is how all of that is beginning to collide with newer architecture, creating unexpected juxtapositions around every corner. Every visit brings something different, but what I keep coming back to capture is that unmistakable old New York.
