kevin swallow - artist bio

I'm a self-taught artist based in Chicago, Illinois. I've been creating art regularly for over twelve years and have been exhibiting publicly since 2001. As far back as I can remember, I’ve had a camera and have made drawings since I was a child.

In 2000, I created my first website to showcase my art — giving my art its initial public exposure. Before my first exhibition in 2001, my art hung in my various Chicago residences and in the homes of family and friends. Over the last eight years, I've shown my work in galleries, alternative spaces, cafés, restaurants, coffee shops, art walks, offices, silent auctions, and even a hospital.

Since 2003, I’ve volunteered for Friends of the Arts (FOTA), a local arts organization supporting emerging artists. I started out as a neighborhood outreach coordinator, booking monthly arts shows at a local café. Since 2006, I’ve managed FOTA’s email newsletter which promotes local events and exhibitions featuring FOTA members.

My art studio is located in the Cornelia Arts Building in Chicago's Roscoe Village neighborhood. This former ice house built in 1910, is a two-story red brick warehouse sandwiched in between the “El” and Metra train tracks. It’s a space that inspires creativity — exposed brick and plenty of windows with views of the neighborhood’s mix of old warehouses and single family homes. The building is home to over 40 artists working in all kinds of media.

Please email me if you’d like to schedule a studio visit to view my work in person.
