kevin swallow - artist bio

Kevin Swallow lives and works in Chicago. Originally from Crestwood, Illinois, he has been creating art since 1996. He works in various media: painting, photography, screen printing and digital media. His palette — whether using paint, a camera or a computer — is strongly influenced by the unlimited sights, sounds, and colors of the city. He travels frequently and draws inspiration from the places he visits in the U.S., Europe and Canada.

Kevin graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communications and has also studied painting, drawing and screen printing at Lill Street Art Center. Since 2006, Kevin's studio has been located in the Cornelia Arts Building. He has recently exhibited at Transistor, Urbanest and Blackbird Gallery. He has also exhibited his work during Ravenswood Art Walk for the past 9 years and has participated in various solo and group shows in Chicago since 2001.

Kevin's work is in various private collections in Illinois; New York; Washington, D.C.; Minnesota; Seattle, WA; Portsmouth, VA; Phoenix, AZ and Barcelona, Spain. His large-scale photograph, Chicago Cityscape, is featured in 250 guest rooms at the Sheraton Hotel in Elk Grove, Illinois. He was recently interviewed by NeotericART, a blog about painting and drawing; and was a panelist for the 2010 and 2011 RAWednesdays DIY Marketing Workshop. Kevin has volunteered for Friends of the Arts (FOTA), an organization for emerging artists, since 2002.

My art studio is located in the Cornelia Arts Building in Chicago's Roscoe Village neighborhood. This former ice house built in 1910, is a two-story red brick warehouse sandwiched in between the “El” and Metra train tracks. It’s a space that inspires creativity — exposed brick and plenty of windows with views of the neighborhood’s mix of old warehouses and single family homes. The building is home to over 40 artists working in all kinds of media.

Please
